We might call this large charge, a mandate. It’s the mandate from God himself and all the specific guidance we might need flows from it. Under this charter we serve and under it we lead. Those who wander from under it must be corrected for their own sake and for the sake of God’s house.

Grace Mercy and Peace
To seek the good of immoral, powerful people we must absorb injustice for the sake of peace. This is mercy. And yet, God doesn’t expect us to pick up the tab for someone else’s offenses. Instead, he first supplies us with the mercy he means for us to dispense.
A Greeting from God our Savior
With his very first words Paul drops the peg that the God of the Old Testament is God our Savior. Jesus doesn’t save us from him but instead is the agent of a salvation God created us for.
The Letter to the Letter to the Ephesians
While I was preaching, I never went through the pastoral letters (1Tim, 1Tim, Titus). So, I thought I would do a devotional series through the book of 1 Timothy which I’m calling, “The Letter to the Letter to Ephesians.”
False Prophets, Figs and Faithfulness
We’re a curious species. And as the saying goes, “Curiosity killed the cat.” I’m not saying that it’s bad to learn. God gave us these wonderful minds and we commit sacrilege when we discourage honest inquiry into reality. God also gave us boundaries such as the inability to see the future or to know for…… Continue reading False Prophets, Figs and Faithfulness
Growth Groups Questionnaire
Growth Groups Questionnaire This tool, based on Neil Cole's Life Transformation Groups, is designed to facilitate a one on one/one on two discipleship process. As with LTG's, participants gather for one hour per week to ask and answer the accountability questions. At the meeting they agree upon a passage of Scripture to read on their own… Continue reading Growth Groups Questionnaire
My First Meme
I believe many who would identify themselves as non-Christians have not rejected Jesus at all. They’ve rejected someone I’m calling “Geezus” – the parody of Christ co-authored by misguided church people and cynics. Open to Matthew and start reading.
Boots On the Ground, Part 1
Jesus prayed. He got up early to do it. He stayed up all night in it. His first disciples followed his example devoting days on end to prayer. Every saint throughout history who has ever done anything worth remembering has been devoted to prayer. So why do modern Christians devote so little time to this…… Continue reading Boots On the Ground, Part 1
Polite Revolution
I’m reading Luke this week with my LTG. In chapter 24 vs 28 Luke tells of how Jesus nearly walked on by his disciples once they reached their destination. He had to be urged strongly before he would join them for a meal. At the meal, they came to realize his identity. This is how…… Continue reading Polite Revolution
Hell? No!
I’ve had several conversations with atheists and agnostics regarding the existence of the God of the Bible. After all is said and very little done, their objections almost always come down to disbelief in a character who would create moral beings knowing they would sin and then cause them to suffer eternally for sinning. They…… Continue reading Hell? No!
